Akins is 1-9 against Austin since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Akins Eagles on the road again and play against the Austin Maroons at 8:00 p.m. on January 26th. Akins will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1103rd, while Austin is ranked 498th).
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Akins, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 44-25 loss to Anderson.
Meanwhile, Austin didn't have too much trouble with Johnson on the road on Tuesday as they won 52-38. The win was just what Austin needed coming off of a 64-39 loss in their prior game.
It was another big night for Kemah Shaw, who scored 27 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Foley Anderson, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Akins has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Austin, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-18 record this season.
Akins was dealt a bruising 74-25 defeat at the hands of Austin in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Shaw, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten assists. Now that Akins knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
