Basketball Recap: Dawson Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Forsyth Home Educators over Durham Flight Homeschool

Forsyth Home Educators was the 63-46 winner over Durham Flight HomeSchool when they last played one another back in March of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Forsyth Home Educators Hawks fell to the Durham Flight HomeSchool Flight 60-54. While the Hawks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Flight 17-11 in the first quarter.

Forsyth Home Educators' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dawson Smith, who went 10 for 17 on his way to 22 points and three steals. Those 22 points gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Fisher, who went 5 of 10 en route to 12 points along with six boards and three steals.

Forsyth Home Educators' defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Durham Flight HomeSchool, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.

Forsyth Home Educators and Durham Flight HomeSchool could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Forsyth Home Educators (ranked 520th) will meet Hickory Grove Christian (ranked 216th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Durham Flight HomeSchool will square off against South Wake at 8:30 p.m. on Friday down 260 places (471 vs. 211).
