The Weeki Wachee Hornets fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Cypress Creek Coyotes on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 78-72 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coyotes. Weeki Wachee just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Weeki Wachee's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Priester, who scored 18 points along with five assists and two steals. Priester is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Stumpf, who scored 16 points along with two blocks.
Cypress Creek got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Caleb Edmonds out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Edmonds has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Jordan Constantine was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Weeki Wachee has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season. As for Cypress Creek, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-12.
Weeki Wachee will challenge the Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sunlake has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Cypress Creek, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Phoenix at 7:30 p.m. Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Coyotes in Florida (the Phoenix are ranked 164th, while the Coyotes are ranked 413th).
