Eastern has gone 9-1 against Federal Hocking recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lancers at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eastern has four straight victories, Federal Hocking has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Eastern gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Waterford by a score of 7-2.
Clayton Moore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hunter Needs, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ethan Edwards, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Eastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Federal Hocking came up short against Belpre on Thursday and fell 9-5.
Federal Hocking also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Brody Rutter gave up six earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. Rutter has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tristyn Bowers made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jax Joy, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one double.
Eastern's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Federal Hocking, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
Federal Hocking's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Eastern has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Federal Hocking, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given Eastern's sizable advantage in that area, the Lancers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Eastern got the 'W' when the teams last played on April 2nd against Federal Hocking by a conclusive 25-1 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
