Hedley is 0-10 against Valley since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hedley Owls will look to defend their home court against the Valley Patriots at 6:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hedley has struggled recently with 12 losses in a row, while Valley will arrive with 30 straight victories.
Last Tuesday, Hedley was beaten by Claude 62-9. Hedley has not had much luck with Claude recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Meanwhile, Valley stacked an 18th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 54-16 win over Groom on the road. Given Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Groom is ranked 1154th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Valley can attribute much of their success to Trinity Schlueter, who scored 18 points along with three steals, and Reese Cruse, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Schlueter has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Laney Edwards, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Hedley dropped their record down to 2-21 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.9 points per game. As for Valley, their win bumped their record up to 30-2.
Hedley took a serious blow against Valley when the teams last played back in January, falling 59-25. Will Hedley have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
