Even though the Gaithersburg Trojans scored an imposing 61 points on Monday, the Whitman Vikings still came out on top. Whitman took down Gaithersburg 76-61. Given Whitman's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Gaithersburg is ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Whitman was led to victory by Titian DeRosa and Thomas Farrell. DeRosa scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, while Farrell went 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Farrell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hayden Walsh, who scored 12 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Whitman and bumps their season record up to 10-3. As for Gaithersburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Whitman won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Quince Orchard at 7:15 p.m. on January 23rd. Quince Orchard has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 256 points over their last four matches. Gaithersburg on the road again on Tuesday and play against Sherwood on January 30th.
