The Northern Durham Knights will head out on the road to challenge the Halifax County Comets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with nine consecutive losses for Northern Durham and four for Halifax County.
Northern Durham suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They took a serious blow against Chapel Hill, falling 98-5. Northern Durham was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 59-2.
Meanwhile, Halifax County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 37-33 to Tunstall. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Halifax County came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while Tunstall is ranked 361st).
Northern Durham's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-9. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.8 points per game. As for Halifax County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Northern Durham ended up a good deal behind Halifax County when the teams last played back in December of 2022, losing 48-32. Can Northern Durham avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
