The Lake Mead Academy Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 32 points or more this season. They took their game on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 79-44 win over GV Christian. Given Lake Mead Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while GV Christian is ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Matthew Cummins jr was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 16 assists. That's the first time this season that he posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Rhodes, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds.
GV Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nick Madsen, who scored 21 points. Madsen scored a full 47.7% of GV Christian's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Deomani Loveland was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, GV Christian were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Mead Academy only posted 23 assists.
Lake Mead Academy's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for GV Christian, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Mead Academy will take on Laughlin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Laughlin is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for GV Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Needles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
