The St. Paul Catholic Falcons are taking a road trip to face off against the Wolcott Eagles at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. St. Paul Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.9 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, St. Paul Catholic made easy work of Derby and carried off a 19-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.
The team relied heavily on Isabella McCulloch, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Julia Kozlak, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
St. Paul Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Derby only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, Wolcott waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Raiders get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.
Not much got past Avery Malenfant, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Torrington off the board. Malenfant has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ava Shea was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Brayden Keeley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
St. Paul Catholic's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Wolcott, their record now sits at 8-4.
Both St. Paul Catholic and Wolcott just can't seem to miss. The Falcons have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Wolcott struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Paul Catholic beat Wolcott 15-10 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
