The Mira Mesa Marauders will head out on the road to face off against the Mission Bay Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mira Mesa has three straight victories, Mission Bay has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
While Mira Mesa's win against High Tech SD wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Marauders had just enough and edged out the Storm 3-2 on Tuesday.
Mira Mesa had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 20-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-13.

Mira Mesa can attribute much of their success to Nathan Montemayor, who had 18 assists and six digs. That's the most assists Montemayor has posted over his last six matchups. Jaden Cao also deserves some recognition as he had his first blocks of the season.
Meanwhile, Mission Bay came up short against University City on Tuesday and fell 3-1.
While Mission Bay ultimately came up short, they really made University City work, particularly in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24.
Mira Mesa will have to keep a close watch on Zeth Abelman and Henry Gildehaus, a pair of players who had a big impact on Mission Bay's prior game. Abelman had 33 digs and two aces, while Gildehaus had six digs and three aces.
Mira Mesa's victory bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Mission Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-10.
Mira Mesa couldn't quite get it done against Mission Bay in their previous matchup back in April as they fell 3-1. Can the Marauders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
