The Smithfield-Selma Spartans have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Southern Wayne Saints at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Smithfield-Selma comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last 17 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
On Wednesday, Smithfield-Selma had to suffer through a rough 58-14 loss at the hands of Fike. Smithfield-Selma has struggled against Fike recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Southern Wayne beat South Johnston 49-45 on Tuesday. The victory was just what Southern Wayne needed coming off of a 55-30 defeat in their prior match.
Nevaeh Hines-Bass was her usual excellent self, scoring 34 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Southern Wayne's points.
Smithfield-Selma's defeat was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-17. As for Southern Wayne, their win bumped their record up to 8-13.
Smithfield-Selma took a serious blow against Southern Wayne in their previous matchup back in January, falling 52-4. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Southern Wayne's Kymora Stokes, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Now that Smithfield-Selma knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
