The Vanguard Classical East Hawks's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Nederland Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on February 5th. Vanguard Classical East comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, Vanguard Classical East had to suffer through a rough 59-24 loss at the hands of the Guardians. Vanguard Classical East was down 43-18 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Meanwhile, Nederland's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight defeat. They were beaten by Non Varsity Opponent 84-24. Nederland was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-14.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Gavin Dillon, who scored ten points. Rick Fortunato was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Nederland struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Vanguard Classical East's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Nederland, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Vanguard Classical East lost to the Panthers on the road by a decisive 40-24 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Vanguard Classical East avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
