Softball Recap: Plant City Extends Winning Streak to Five

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plant City). They were the clear victor by a 21-2 margin over the Brandon Eagles on Thursday. The Raiders' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Kayleigh Gibbs made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gibbs was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Isabelle Wright was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Burden, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

Plant City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

Plant City pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Brandon, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Plant City will host Armwood at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Armwood has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14 runs per game on average), something Plant City will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Brandon, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Middleton at 10:00 a.m. Brandon has given up an average of 15.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
