The Maury Commodores won the last time they faced the Granby Comets, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Maury took down Granby 55-40. The win was all the more spectacular given Maury's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while Granby is ranked 168th).
Maury's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Myla Parker led the charge by scoring 16 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Parker has scored at least 25% of Maury's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyla Brown, who scored 12 points.
Maury's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4. As for Granby, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
Maury will head out on the road to face off against Lake Taylor at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Taylor will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Granby will be home for the holidays to greet Manor at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Manor will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
