Not much got past Wilson Andersen, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Tampa Catholic off the board. Those ten strikeouts gave Andersen a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Bryce Besece was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Christian Sheffield was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, St. Thomas Aquinas' hitters rose to the challenge against a Cowboys pitching crew that boasted an average of only four runs allowed on Friday. St. Thomas Aquinas came out on top against Gaither by a score of 10-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Considering the Raiders have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Julian Diaz tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zack Malvasio, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Nico Sabatino, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
Jesuit pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, their win bumped their record up to 7-3-1.
Jesuit's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's matchup. Jesuit has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for St. Thomas Aquinas, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Jesuit continue to outrun the ball?
