The Southwestern Heights Mustangs and the Stanton County Trojans will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Southwestern Heights posted their biggest win yet this season on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 53-25 win over Deerfield at home.
Even though Stanton County has not done well against Syracuse recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Stanton County walked away with a 40-33 victory over Syracuse. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Stanton County has scored all season.
Stanton County found their leader in underclassman David Crane, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Crane hasn't dropped below two blocks for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Callegas, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Southwestern Heights' victory bumped their record up to 1-8-1. As for Stanton County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Southwestern Heights came up short against Stanton County in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 45-36. Can Southwestern Heights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
