Bovina hasn't had much luck against Farwell recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Steers at 7:00 p.m. This will be Bovina's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Bovina and Smyer have met, but the home crowd finally got their W last Friday. The Mustangs took down the Bobcats 24-8. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won three in a row.

Xavier Garcia
| 09/26/25 vs Smyer | 71 |
| 09/05/25 vs Highland Park | 51 |

Bovina's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Xavier Garcia led the charge by rushing for 71 yards and one touchdown. Those 71 rushing yards gave Garcia a new career-high.
Bovina's run defense was locked in: Smyer could only muster -2.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Alex Herrera for the heroic effort on defense: he. Bovina didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.6.
Bovina's defense didn't let Skyler Pond, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Smyer's QB won't forget Garcia anytime soon given he sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Farwell). Everything went their way against Friona on Friday as they made off with a 49-27 victory. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-14.
Bovina better focus on containing Coy Miller and Kolson Allen as the pair were huge in Farwell's win. Miller rushed for 170 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 10.0 yards per carry, while Allen threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns. Miller was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Andrae Pullen got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Farwell didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Pullen and Ruben Molina. Another thorn in Friona's side was Franklin Valle, who made 16 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
The win got Bovina back to even at 2-2. As for Farwell, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Bovina has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 247.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Farwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 187.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Bovina took a serious blow against Farwell when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 39-0. Thankfully for the Mustangs, Jonathan Armstrong (who rushed for 87 yards and three scores, and also threw for 100 yards and a pair of TDs) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
