The Broughton Capitals were the 58-56 winner over the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Broughton fell just short of Cardinal Gibbons by a score of 57-54. While losing is never fun, Broughton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Cardinal Gibbons is ranked 84th).
When it comes to explaining why Broughton lost on Tuesday, one person who can't be blamed is Harrison Peatross. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Jordan Page, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Cash McSweeney was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds for Cardinal Gibbons. McSweeney hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Smalls, who scored 13 points.
Broughton has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Cardinal Gibbons, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-5.
Broughton will stay at home for another game and welcome Athens Drive at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they will head out on the road to take on Sanderson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
