Toll Gate is 2-8 against Pilgrim since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Titans will look to defend their home field against the Patriots at 1:30 p.m. Pilgrim took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Toll Gate, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with ten losses in a row, Toll Gate turned things around against Rogers on Thursday. They walked away with a 12-7 win over the Vikings. The Titans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Brady Fales looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Braeden Geer was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jack Colvin, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Toll Gate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Pilgrim faced South Kingstown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Patriots fell 6-1 to the Rebels. That's two games in a row now that the Patriots have lost by exactly five runs.
Pilgrim saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Donovan Vermette, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-12. As for Pilgrim, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Toll Gate has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pilgrim struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
