Newberry is a perfect 4-0 against Fairfield Central since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Griffins at 5:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Newberry turned things around against Keenan on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 22-1 margin over the Raiders. The Bulldogs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Sydney West was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaydee Rivers, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those RBI were her first of the season. Courtney Scurry was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3.
Newberry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Fairfield Central waltzed into their contest on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Shamrocks as they made off with a 17-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Griffins, who have now won five matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Myah McMillan made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits. McMillan was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Aaliyah Lyles was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Alexis Montgomery, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Fairfield Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Newberry, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Newberry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Fairfield Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Newberry took their win against Fairfield Central when the teams last played back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 22-6 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Griffins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
