Summit is 9-1 against Steamboat Springs since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tigers will face off against the Sailors at 2:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Steamboat Springs will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Summit extended their winning streak to four on Monday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over Middle Park.
Hogan Tobias was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Wyatt Lyman also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Summit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .511 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Steamboat Springs hadn't done well against Battle Mountain recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Sailors put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 15-6 victory. The Sailors not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2nd (when they won 20-0).
Damien Dobson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Steamboat Springs is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Dobson was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tanner Cobb, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Rickey Hernandez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Summit pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.8 runs over those games. As for Steamboat Springs, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Summit hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Steamboat Springs struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Summit took their win against Steamboat Springs in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sailors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
