Baseball Recap: Saugatuck Takes a Loss

If Saugatuck was riding high fresh off their 16-0 takedown of Fennville on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trailblazers fell 12-8 to the Blackhawks on Saturday. The Trailblazers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Blackhawks earlier this season, when they won 16-0.

Saugatuck saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah DeBoer, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. DeBoer has become a key player for the Trailblazers: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-12 otherwise. Grady Gross also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Saugatuck's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 11-13. As for Fennville, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-14.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Saugatuck will face off against Allegan at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Fennville, they will challenge Gobles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
