Softball Recap: Holmes County Has No Trouble Against Marianna

Holmes County never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Marianna on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Bulldogs. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Blue Devils' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Savannah Ludwig tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava Jones, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayeden Birge, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Holmes County's record now sits at 6-4. As for Marianna, their defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-11.
