Orange Beach and Fairhope are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Makos will venture away from home to face off against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Orange Beach will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Orange Beach barely beat Hoover the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Makos were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Buccaneers on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Makos, who have now won 26 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Orange Beach got a massive performance out of Teagan Revette, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie King, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three runs.
Orange Beach always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Fairhope never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Gulf Shores. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.
Not much got past Addison Russell, who gave up just seven hits to keep Gulf Shores off the board. Russell has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 16 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Briley Bolden, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mia Gates, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Fairhope pushed their record up to 25-9 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Orange Beach, their record now sits at 35-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Orange Beach hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Fairhope struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Orange Beach was able to grind out a solid victory over Fairhope when the teams last played back in March, winning 9-6. Will the Makos repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
