The Classical Academy Titans are taking a road trip to square off against the Eaton Reds at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
The Classical Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Prospect Ridge Academy with a sharp 11-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Titans.
Chase Rorabaugh tossed a big game, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Maddox Awtry was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zack Hale, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
The Classical Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Prospect Ridge Academy only posted an OBP of .345.
Meanwhile, while Eaton put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Basalt. The Reds blew past the Longhorns 8-0. Winning may never get old, but the Reds sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Not much got past Gunnar Garrison, who gave up just four hits and racked up 18 Ks to keep Basalt off the board.
At the plate, Malaki Dalpra and Liam Whalen did most of the damage at the plate: Dalpra went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Whalen went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Greyson Clingan was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
The Classical Academy's record now sits at 19-6. As for Eaton, their record is now an identical 19-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. The Classical Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Eaton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
The Classical Academy came up short against Eaton when the teams last played back in June of 2021, falling 4-1. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
