The Arlington Lions will face off against the Heritage Patriots at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Arlington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Arlington needed a bit of extra time to put away JW North. They put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 9-3 win. The victory was nothing new for the Lions as they're now sitting on three straight.
Itzel Hernandez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Arlington got a massive performance out of Ryleigh Pliego, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Pliego has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mia Cortez, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Heritage was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They fell 7-2 to Canyon Springs.
Natalia York made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Heritage has also been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Arlington, their win bumped their record up to 14-5.
Heritage's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Arlington has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Heritage, though, as they've been averaging 11.3 hits. Given Arlington's sizable advantage in that area, the Patriots will need to find a way to close that gap.
Arlington took their victory against Heritage when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
