Bakersfield is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Redwood is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Drillers will host the Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Bakersfield is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Central Valley Christian, sneaking past 31-28. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Drillers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 266th).
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Damir Lomax and Ja'Khari Burrell. Lomax had a great game and rushed for 204 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Burrell did his best for the losing side, rushing for 94 yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, while Redwood put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for San Luis Obispo. The Rangers breezed past the Tigers to the tune of 54-0. Considering the Rangers have won six games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Bakersfield better keep an eye on Jimmie Burk. He was instrumental in Redwood's win, rushing for 215 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries, while also catching one TD. Burk is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last six games he's played. Oliver Richardson was another key player, picking up 47 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Redwood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 337 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 218 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.
Redwood didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Abram Feldstein led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Brody Preisendorf got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Redwood's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Bakersfield, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Bakersfield has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 229 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Redwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 237.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
