Vallivue and Middleton are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Falcons will square off against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vallivue is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
Vallivue is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Skyview, who was ranked tenth at the time (Vallivue was ranked seventh). The Falcons won by a run and slipped past the Hawks 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Falcons sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Maris Farner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ainsley Mazzella was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Sophia Kassotis was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Middleton made easy work of Columbia on Thursday and carried off an 18-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Roxy Schiffler was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Hailie Maupin also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Middleton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .652. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .450 or higher in three consecutive games.
Vallivue's record is now 17-4. As for Middleton, their record now sits at an identical 17-4.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Vallivue hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .427. However, it's not like Middleton struggles in that department as they've averaged .419. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Vallivue skirted past Middleton 18-16 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
