Teams in the MaxPreps rankings are producing eye-grabbing numbers
No. 3 Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) – Entering its crucial encounter with No. 13 Dorman (Roebuck) on Saturday night, the Rebels have coasted through one of the most difficult schedules in the country. Included in its 8-0 start are victories over North Gwinnett (Suwannee, Ga.), Lincoln (Tallahassee, Fla.), and Pahokee (Fla.) by an average of 37-11.
Junior running back Marcus Lattimore – Byrnes’ all-time leading rusher and a member of the shortlist for MaxPreps National Player of the Year honors – has 1,289 rushing yards this season and 15 touchdowns.
No. 19 Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.) – The pride of Sammamish, Wash. has amazing outscored its opponents 296-8 this season, including two straight shutouts. The Spartans have not allowed a touchdown since Sept. 12 in a 56-6 win over Ballard (Seattle). Could Skyline be the best team from the state of Washington of all-time?
Defensive superlatives aside, junior signal caller Jake Heaps (1,298 passing yards, 18 TDs, 1 INT) is regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the Class of 2010 nationally. Wide receiver Gino Simone (649 total yards, 13 TDs) is a verbal to Washington State.
No. 28 Noxubee County (Macon, Miss.) – The Tigers, like Skyline, have attempted redefine defensive dominance in 2008. Noxubee County – 7-0 this season – has outscored its foes 320-7 and has totaled six shutouts, including three straight. The seven points were given up all the way back on Sept. 26 in a 44-7 rout of New Hope (Columbus).
Wide receiver Patrick Patterson is considered the leading talent for the Tigers. Last season Patterson led the Tigers to a 12-3 mark and 4A state championship with over 1,400 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. Patterson has already racked up 14 touchdown receptions this season and has kicked 22 extra points and two field goals for the Tigers.

A pass attempt from Edison quarterback Matt Viles was swatted down in the end zone as time expired, allowing Los Alamitos to remain unbeaten (7-0). Los Alamitos now has the inside track to the Sunset League title. Colorado commit Clark Evans completed 13-of-20 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns while adding 61 rushing yards and another score for the Griffins. Evans would have been in the neighborhood of 100 rushing yards but lost 35 towards the end of the game when he was instructed to take a safety.
