Dekaney hasn't had much luck against Spring recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will square off against the Lions at 6:30 p.m. Dekaney has given up an average of 17.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Dekaney had taken Eisenhower down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Wildcats came up short against the Eagles, falling 19-3.
Takiara Blanton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Trevi?o, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Spring waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They blew past the Generals 17-1. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by ten runs or more this season.
Mikayla Zepeda tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Keona Jackson was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Hailey Jones-Calais, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.
Spring pushed their record up to 12-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.6 runs over those games. As for Dekaney, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dekaney has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Spring struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dekaney suffered a grim 21-0 defeat to Spring when the teams last played back in March. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
