The Winona Tigers put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Mantachie, posting a 62-7 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Winona, who have now won nine contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Winona's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zaishun Nash, who rushed for 45 yards and two touchdowns, and also picked up 47 receiving yards. Nash hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Chase Richardson, who threw for 114 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes.
Another reason for the win was Winona's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Tyler Lockhart and his two sacks.
Winona's win was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 11-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 9-2 Humphreys County and 9-2 Charleston (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 55.7% over those games). As for Mantachie, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.
Winona will square off against North Panola at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Panola has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 160 points over their last three games. Mantachie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
