6A District 11 recap Nov. 7, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to South Fort Myers, who took down 35th ranked South Fort Myers, 15-14. Alex Febles ran for 18 yards and caught two passes for 78 yards in the win.
Ida Baker moved up to 151 from 177 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 6A District 11. The Bulldogs were able to make move up by beating the Wolfpack 15-14.
Bishop Verot's dynamic duo of Quinn Farrell and D.J. Oceant-Kelly proved tough for Fort Myers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Farrell threw for 179 yards and one touchdown and Oceant-Kelly had 154 yards receiving. Luke Labreche helped Bishop Verot's passing attack out by catching one ball for 18 yards.
Van Edwards was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 320 yards on 13 carries as Riverdale lost to the Green Wave. Anthony Snyder also contributed to the rushing game with 94 yards on the ground.
6-foot-3 quarterback Kurt Benkert of Island Coast is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1959. He has also thrown 17 touchdowns. On the ground, the Raiders' Edwards has rushed for 1245 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Oceant-Kelly. The Bishop Verot star has 33 catches for 566 yards.
In 129 carries Robert Brown has accumulated 992 yard this year.
The Gators' Benkert is within 41 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Cape Coral.
Ida Baker and South Fort Myers played the most hotly contested game in 6A District 11 this week, with Ida Baker eventually emerging with a 15-14 victory. Febles in the win.
