Seminole Ridge is a perfect 5-0 against Somerset Academy - Canyons since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. Seminole Ridge will challenge Somerset Academy - Canyons at 3:30 p.m. Seminole Ridge's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Somerset Academy - Canyons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Seminole Ridge took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over Olympic Heights.
Gage Roof looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in February.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kane Decker, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Ashton Hazlett, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, while Somerset Academy - Canyons put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Oxbridge Academy. Somerset Academy - Canyons put the hurt on Oxbridge Academy with a sharp 11-0 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by nine runs or more this season.
Not much got past Tyler Schwal, who gave up just four hits to keep Oxbridge Academy off the board. Schwal has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Freddy Haney was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. AJ Fernandez was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Somerset Academy - Canyons has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. Seminole Ridge's record now sits at 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Seminole Ridge has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Somerset Academy - Canyons struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Seminole Ridge beat Somerset Academy - Canyons 6-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Seminole Ridge since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
