Hartley is 0-10 against Texline since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hartley Tigers will be staying on the road to face off against the Texline Tornadoes at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Hartley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Friday.
Hartley suffered their biggest loss since November 30, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Adrian on the road and fell 70-41.
Despite their defeat, Hartley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Emmanuel Saldivar, who scored eight points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Jesus Quevedo, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Texline came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Wildorado by a score of 53-46. The score was all tied up 25-25 at the break, but Texline was the better team in the second half.
Texline got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Will Clay out in front who scored 11 points. Hayden Drumm was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds.
Hartley has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Texline, they pushed their record up to 20-4 with that victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Hartley have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Texline, though, as they've been averaging only 34.8 rebounds per game. Given Hartley's sizeable advantage in that area, Texline will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hartley was taken down by Texline 93-24 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Hartley, Stratton Potter (who scored 17 points along with three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
