In this week's power rankings, we saw one team go soaring up and another team come crashing down, along with everything in between. Part of the action? A towering 101-point combined score for Topeka and Washburn Rural.

It isn't too difficult to come out on top when you enjoy a 284-yard edge over your opponent, and Great Bend had just that last week. Its opponent Central forfeited the game 30 - 7. Senior Koy Brack deserves a lot of the credit as he tossed the ball for 217 yards and three TDs. Thanks to its success, Great Bend cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 24th spot.
Can't Touch This
Northwest's 61 - 15 win over Garden City last week had a lot to do with the leadership of junior Reagan Jones. Jones ran for 157 yards and also punched in three touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Jones as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.

The battle between Pittsburg (ranked 17th in the power rankings) and Mill Valley (ranked 20th) turned out to be a somewhat underwhelming competition. Pittsburg has to be hurting after a devastating 35 - 13 defeat at the hands of Mill Valley. Pittsburg plummeted 11 positions in the power rankings after the loss.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Bishop Miege (2nd in the power rankings) and Aquinas (3rd). Both teams are coming in hot off of wins in their previous games. Of course, Bishop Miege and Aquinas can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
