The Mountain Pointe Pride will head out on the road to face off against the Perry Pumas at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Perry took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mountain Pointe, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Mountain Pointe beat Desert Vista 21-16. The win was just what Mountain Pointe needed coming off of a 44-7 loss in their prior matchup.
A'Lysha "Zeke" Rodriguez was a one-man wrecking crew for Mountain Pointe as he rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Rodriguez was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards. Mountain Pointe also got a significant boost from Christian Clark, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 105 yards.
Meanwhile, Perry faced Basha in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Perry took a 38-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of Basha on Friday. Perry has struggled against Basha recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Perry got a solid performance out of Don Tinsley, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns.
Mountain Pointe's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Perry, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Mountain Pointe and Perry were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in September of 2021, but Mountain Pointe suffered an agonizing 21-20 defeat. Can Mountain Pointe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
