The Mainland Buccaneers won the last time they faced the Gainesville Hurricanes, and things went their way on Friday too. Mainland breezed by the Hurricanes on the road to the tune of 74-39. With Mainland ahead 44-20 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Mainland was led to victory by Olivia Olson and Anovia Sheals. Olson scored 25 points along with seven assists, while Sheals scored 27 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Olson has scored all season. Tia Dobson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five assists.
Mainland is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-12 record this season. As for Gainesville, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.
Mainland's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Falcons on February 7th. Menendez will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Buccaneers are ranked 35th). As for Gainesville, they will face off against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
