After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, the Sterling Raiders brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They rang in the new year with a 62-53 victory over Washington on Saturday. That's another feather in the cap for Sterling, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading Sterling to victory were Joemoriah Ben and Amanda Scott. Ben scored 22 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Scott scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Ben has scored at least a third of Sterling's points. Another player making a difference was Madison Morrow, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Washington lost, one person who can't be blamed is Danaya Pope. Despite the final result, she scored 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Cleare, who scored 13 points.
Sterling's win bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Washington, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-7.
Sterling will be playing at home against Galena Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Galena Park is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. Washington's road trip will continue as they head out to face Worthing at 7:30 p.m. on January 8th. Worthing will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
