It was a good run, but the Illinois School for the Deaf Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They were beaten by New Mexico School for the Deaf 46-19. While losing is never fun, Illinois School for the Deaf can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 656th in Illinois, while the Roadrunners are ranked 141st in New Mexico).
New Mexico School for the Deaf found their leader in underclassman Kimora Vollmar, who dropped a triple-double on 26 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vollmar has scored all season. Sirrah Wilding was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds and six steals.
Illinois School for the Deaf's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for New Mexico School for the Deaf, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Illinois School for the Deaf will challenge the Frank at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Faith Bible Christian Academy/Mid-America Prep is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for New Mexico School for the Deaf, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Bobcats at 11:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Iowa School for the Deaf comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
