The Citrus Hill Hawks will take on the Perris Panthers at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Citrus Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Citrus Hill took a 16-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lakeside, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hawks narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Lancers 7-6.
Taylor Macaulay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Citrus Hill let Julissa Sandoval and Tatum Pino run wild. Sandoval scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances, while Pino scored a run while going 2-for-3. Roxxan Sandate also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Perris was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They came up short against Moreno Valley, falling 29-2. The match marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Anahi Morales was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Kimberly Santoyo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Citrus Hill has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Perris, their loss was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4.
Perris' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Citrus Hill has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Perris, though, as they've been averaging 11.3 hits. Given Citrus Hill's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Citrus Hill took their victory against Perris when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-5 score. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
