Basketball Recap: North Sanpete Falls Despite Big Games from Lucy Hiatt and Malia Schlappi

North Sanpete lost against Emery back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The North Sanpete Hawks took a 62-45 bruising from the Emery Spartans. The Hawks were down 57-35 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

North Sanpete's loss came despite strong showings from Malia Schlappi and Lucy Hiatt. Schlappi posted ten points and five steals, while Hiatt put up eight points. Schlappi has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Elsie Bailey was another key player, putting up nine points.

Emery had a senior duo take command as Katelyn Nielson went 6 of 13 on her way to 15 points and Saige Curtis went 5 of 11 on her way to 15 points. The dominant performance gave Curtis a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Stilson, who had eight points.

This is the second loss in a row for North Sanpete and nudges their season record down to 5-10. As for Emery, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.

North Sanpete will head out to square off against Carbon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Emery, they will face off against Juab at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Emery has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 180 points over their last three contests.
