V Section IV recap October 22, 2013
Tempe Prep added to the longest winning streak in V Section IV this week by beating Veritas Prep, 62-6. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Knights.
The Falcons fell to Tempe Prep 62-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Nick Smith threw for 344 yards and 5 touchdowns. He went 21-33 with 1 interception.
Jonah Simminger was a key player and the best on defense this week as Thomas Brittain's team beat Veritas Prep. The 5-foot-8 junior grabbed 1 interception.
Matt Munsil was the best receiver in the league this week as Scottsdale Preparatory Academy topped Valley Christian. Munsil tallied 5 receptions for 115 yards. Ben McKeighan helped Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's passing attack out by catching 7 balls for 80 yards.
The Spartans' Smith and Munsil have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Smith has thrown for 2,118 yards this season, while Munsil has 42 catches for 921 yards. Zechariah Gatling from Scottsdale Christian Academy leads the league in rushing with 864 yards.
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's Munsil is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 79 receiving yards against Chandler Prep to hit that benchmark. He has recorded 42 catches for 921 yards this year.
An important game coming up in V Section IV this week will be when Will Munsil's team takes on the Titans. The Spartans are in first place, while Chandler Prep is in seventh place.
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,409 from 9,680. The improvement was the result of a 62-25 victory over the Trojans last week.
