Given Fairfax Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Eagles are ranked 27th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fairfax Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nijel Howard, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Howard has scored all season. Alex Mostashari was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Evergreen Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Shelton, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jackson Britt, who scored ten points along with two blocks.
Fairfax Christian pushed their record up to 25-5 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Evergreen Christian, their defeat ended a eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games.
