In what's become a running theme this season, the Moapa Valley Pirates gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They put the hurt on Virgin Valley with a sharp 49-29 victory. The victory was nothing new for Moapa Valley as they're now sitting on nine straight.
It was another big night for Haylie Western, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Claire Cox, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Virgin Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Natali Isidro, who scored five points along with three steals. Isidro hasn't dropped below three steals for 12 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mady Wright, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Moapa Valley is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season. As for Virgin Valley, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-11.
Moapa Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Mater Academy East Las Vegas will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Pirates are ranked 13th). Virgin Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
