Orestimba hasn't had much luck against Ripon Christian recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Warriors will be playing at home against the Knights at 4:00 p.m.
Orestimba is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ripon.
Colby Cabral put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Cabral was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ray Montes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Jaden Sotelo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, while Ripon Christian put up some runs last Friday, the same can't be said for Ripon. The Knights put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 10-0 victory. Considering the Knights have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Orestimba, Ripon Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Jordan Luisi. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Luisi was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Ripon Christian's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Trenton Cloward was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Wadlow, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Ripon Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Ripon Christian's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-9. As for Orestimba, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-19.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Orestimba has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ripon Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
