Geneseo and Moline are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Maple Leafs are taking a road trip to square off against the Maroons at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Geneseo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Geneseo got the win against Galesburg by a conclusive 21-2. The result was nothing new for the Maple Leafs, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Kendyl Wassenhove looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.
At the plate, Geneseo got a massive performance out of Avery Kennedy, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Kennedy has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylee Brudos, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Geneseo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Galesburg only managed three hits.
Meanwhile, Moline gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Quincy, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Maroons have posted since May 10, 2024.
Kayley Reynolds made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Kaylee Dennis was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Lana Edkin also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Geneseo is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Moline, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-14.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Geneseo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .399. However, it's not like Moline struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Geneseo skirted past Moline 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Maple Leafs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
