The Highland Hornets scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They came out on top against Hope Christian by a score of 55-44. The win was just what Highland needed coming off of a 46-23 defeat in their prior game.
Highland's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rebecca Neal, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. Neal set a new season high mark in steals with four. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Cordova, who scored 16 points.
Despite the loss, Hope Christian saw an underclassman step up: Zo? Mangrum dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Savanah Sanchez, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Highland's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Hope Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland will square off against Organ Mountain at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hope Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Cleveland at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. Cleveland presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hope Christian in New Mexico (Cleveland is ranked 32nd, while Hope Christian is ranked 90th).
