Softball Recap: Sacred Heart of Jesus Drops Season-High Score on St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sacred Heart of Jesus). They were the clear victors by a 25-1 margin over the St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors on Friday. Considering the Comets have won five contests by more than 14 runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Alina Valenzuela was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yelena Moran, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Trinity Godson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-6.

Sacred Heart of Jesus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 27 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Sacred Heart of Jesus, bringing their record up to 5-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.0 runs over those games. As for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5.

Sacred Heart of Jesus wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 15-5 victory against Alhambra on the 29th. As for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, they have also already played their next game, a 30-4 win against St. Bernard on the 3rd.
