The Cardinal Newman Cardinals are taking a road trip to square off against the Rancho Cotate Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cardinal Newman will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
It was a proper cat-fight when Cardinal Newman challenged Analy on Tuesday. The Cardinals never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Izzie Kunimune, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Analy off the board. Kunimune has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jordyn Johnsen was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Andrea Mansbery also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cardinal Newman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Rancho Cotate made easy work of Analy on Thursday and carried off an 11-3 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cougars have posted against the Tigers since April 13, 2023.
The team relied heavily on Lily Alvis, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Isabella Scardina was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Cardinal Newman pushed their record up to 11-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rancho Cotate, their record is now 7-8.
Rancho Cotate's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Cardinal Newman has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Rancho Cotate, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Cardinal Newman keep running through batters, or will the Cougars buck the trend?
Everything went Cardinal Newman's way against Rancho Cotate in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Cardinal Newman made off with a 13-3 win. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
