The Holy Ghost Prep Firebirds will face off against the La Salle College Explorers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Holy Ghost Prep earned a 4-1 win over St. Augustine Prep. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Firebirds.
Holy Ghost Prep got a great performance from Nick Armitage as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
At the plate, Tyler Bergkoetter was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in June of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of K.J. Freiband, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, La Salle College strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Lansdale Catholic get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Explorers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by eight runs or more this season.
Declan Cawley looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caden Schmidt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Matt Wambold, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
La Salle College was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lansdale Catholic only posted a batting average of .143.
La Salle College pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Holy Ghost Prep, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Holy Ghost Prep has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like La Salle College struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
